There are a variety of soft tissue techniques that our therapists apply to each patient case to decrease pain, improve circulation, improve tissue extensibility, and decrease spasms or trigger points. Such techniques include effleurage (gentle massage to prep the muscle tissue), petrissage (deeper massage to improve muscle tissue extensibility), deep friction massage (deeper massage across tendons to decrease scar tissue and realign fibers), retrograde massage (to remove edema from a joint), and trigger point release (deep pressure to eliminate a knot in your muscle). Common injuries treated with soft tissue massage include post-surgical edema management, IT band tightness, back pain, ankle sprains, and tendonitis.
